Dear Editor, Jamaica’s own universal beauty, Carolyn Yapp, was an excellent choice to represent the country at the recent Miss Universe pageant in The Bahamas.

When this young lady was crowned Miss Jamaica Universe, I felt she was the one who could seriously usurp the coveted title and that she was our best delegate to the pageant – which she largely proved by being put in the status as one of the leaders among the group of 83 women.

Throughout the pageant she was actually described as having the qualities to be in serious contention for the finals – very pretty, a strong communicator and generally polished onstage.

For those of us who followed the contest, that description was easily verified as Carolyn was very often seen in pictures and her interviews provided very good reading. However, the final competition proved otherwise as Carolyn and a few other favourites were left out of the final selection. However, it is important to thank Carolyn Yapp for a job well done.
She proved an able and worthy ambassador for our country.

Pulse’s organising body should also be thanked for giving this young lady a chance to walk among so many other women and for having shone so brilliantly and memorably. Carolyn made us proud by the way she walked the stage, wore our national costume and spoke so glowingly about her life in Jamaica. Well done, Carolyn.
