Miss Jamaica Universe 2009, Carolyn Yapp, readily admits that she’s a fashion girl, and that shopping is a favorite recreation for her. Here’s some insight on her style:
According to her, she dresses based on her mood, but as a general rule, she pairs the classic with the trendy in order to create a look that is fresh. Her must-haves include a pair of Christian Louboutin pumps, black leggings and Alexander Wang tank tops. When shopping in Jamaica, she goes to ‘Shimmer’ and ‘Brit Bran’, as she prefers their selections and great quality. Spring Flower by Creed is her favoured fragrance these days, but she admits to also liking Coco Chanel.

This picture is a flashback to the Miss Universe 2009 contest in the Bahamas (August 2009). It features (from left to right), Larissa Costa (Miss Brazil 2009), Emiri Miyasaka (Miss Japan 2009), Carolyn Yapp (Miss Jamaica 2009), and Kiara Sherman (Miss Bahamas 2009), enjoying the water on August 11, 2009 at Manjack Cay, Abaco, Bahamas.

Miss Jamaica Universe 2009 was featured today in the Jamaica Observer’s Chat magazine. She sat down for 13 questions with them … here are the questions and her responses:
- Complete the following: I am a … self-motivated, classic, unique, friendly, down-to-earth, philanthropic girl.
- Who has been your inspiration? A lot of different people. Family – particularly my mother and sisters, as well as friends. The late Diana, Princess of Wales, is also an inspiration in terms of style and philanthropy.
- Tell us one thing about yourself that people would be surprised to know. I am a really down-to-earth person, really corny and a lover of animals.
- How would you spend US$25M? Definitely buy a nice house, car, houses for my parents and sisters, and make a big donation to the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and children with HIV in Jamaica. Also, a shopping spree in Bal Harbour.
- Looking back, anything you would do differently? When I was younger, there were things that I did that I would love to change, but I guess it all helped in the development process. They were all learning processes.
- Describe your perfect date. I’m a big foodie, so I must say restaurant and a nice bottle of wine. If not that then dinner and a movie with pop corn or fast food. I love that junk!
- What’s your favourite cartoon character? Veronica from Archie – because she is such a fashionista, and she does and says what she wants, whenever she wants.
- Do you plan to get married? Yes I do … one day hopefully. <laughs>
- What’s the best thing you have ever done for somebody without being asked? Not one thing. If I see someone in need, I give if I can. I don’t know what they are going to so with the money, but I give it with a good heart. I have no problems with buying someone in need a meal.
- Cornmeal pudding or black forest cake? My Mommy’s cornmeal pudding.
- What gets under your skin? The bus drivers from Portland at Manor Park. They are unruly. Also, women who pencil in their eyebrows.
- How do you relieve stress? By going out and having a good time with my friends; yoga; playing with my dogs.
- Which family member is likely to call you at 2 a.m.? My sister Kim, who is only a year older than I am, but is still very motherly.
