Its been a week since Yendi Phillipps was announced as Miss Jamaica Universe 2010, but her crowning is being dogged by controversy. Since her crowning, a fierce debate has ranged online, in the press and in social circles, that this year’s competition was rigged, and that Phillipps was literally ‘promised’ or guaranteed the win.
Long before the coronation show, there were numerous comments that the pageant was a forgone conclusion, and that Phillipps would win. Some argued that she should not have been allowed to enter, as her experience and the fact that she had previously won the Miss Jamaica title, gave her an unfair advantage over the other contestants.
Regardless, the Miss Jamaica Universe organisers have rubbished claims that this year’s competition was rigged, and have pointed to the distinguished panel of judges that made their decision based on Phillipps’ outstanding performance in various areas.

Go Yendhi! CONGRATULATIONS again… You are always my top choice in any competition and this time clearly there was NO COMPETITION.
Good job! 2 crowns – Continue to rep for Jamaica and the Andrew’s Old Girls…:)

I’m glad there are stunning photos of Miss Jamaica 2010 still on the internet because I was disappointed that she wasn’t crowned Miss Universe 2010. Still, despite this, I certainly hope Yendi Phillips doesn’t allow her ambitions to be dampened because, with God’s help, I’m sure she can do anything she wants to do.

I think it was wise for the judges to select her. Sometimes, Jamaicans will never get certain things. MU NEEDS a seasoned girl! This is why Yendi did so well. She learnt from MW, spent 3 years perfecting her skills, did modelling in South Africa and all this made her a force at MU. Otherwise, we would just be clapping again. Hate all you want but had Yendi not been chosen, Jamaica would still not have made it this far up the MU list. And I hope Invyte will continue recruiting and choosing seasoned girls, with international modelling experience, because just in case we haven’t realized as yet, THAT IS WHAT TRUMP WANTS. Jamaicans needs to get out of the 40s 50s and realize this.
We cuss every year that our girls aren’t doing well. Well I hope Invyte continues to hold their obviously 20/20 vision and remain clear on what MU wants and sends as is appropriate.
Host country has a lot to do with who we send as well. It had to be a light-skin for Vegas. Brazil needs a Nell! Work on it Invyte. We need to maintain our position because we have the girls to do it! And start recruiting and training from earlier!!!

Frankly, they should hand pick the girl annually and just train her if they really know what they are doing and then just raise funds to sponsor her using other means. ^_^ A bit extreme…but Yendi, you need to open a school for the hopefuls since you obviously know the ropes!!!
